Company Profile & Legitimacy:

Is LGT a legitimate Microfinance institution?

Yes. LGT operates legally as a credit-only microfinance provider under a Letter of No Objection issued by the Central Bank of Kenya.

LGT launched operations with the opening of its flagship branch in Likoni in July 2019.

As of January 2026, LGT has a network of 40 branches across multiple Kenyan counties.

Loan Eligibility & Requirements:

Who qualifies as a target client for LGT?

LGT serves low-income entrepreneurs operating within the informal sector. Your business must be situated in a permanent, fixed location.

To qualify for a loan, you must meet the following criteria: Run a business that has been operational for at least 6 months in a permanent location, provide an original National ID card, present proof of business ownership, and possess an active Safaricom line used consistently for at least 12 months.

No upfront collateral is needed for approval. However, you must list specific personal household and business assets during registration and sign an authorization form. This grant allows LGT to repossess and sell those items to recover funds if you default

Application Process & Payout:

Can I apply for a loan online or through an app?

No. LGT does not have a digital lending app. They use a personalized, face-to-face lending model. A loan officer will visit your business location to discuss available options. If you meet the criteria and accept the terms, you will complete physical application forms, and funds will be sent to you within one hour.

In-Person Visit: A loan officer evaluates your business and explains the terms.

Paper Application: You fill out and sign the required physical documents on-site.

Quick Payout: Approved funds are transferred to you within 60 minutes.

 

No, returning customers do not need to come into the office or sign new paperwork. Simply pay the Kshs. 200.00 repeat loan fee, and that payment will serve as your official application and agreement to the loan terms.

What types of loans does LGT provide?

Interest Rate: A flat rate of 30% applies to all disbursed loans, regardless of the tenure.

Repayment Period: Terms span between 15 and 60 days, determined by the borrowed amount.

Repayments are processed through mobile money. Use M-Pesa Paybill 271778 and enter your National ID Number as the account number.

No. LGT maintains complete transparency. Every applicable cost is clearly detailed in the terms and conditions.

Yes. Overdue loans incur a penalty fee of 2% on the remaining unpaid balance until the debt is fully cleared.

If you miss a daily payment, a Kshs. 30.00 penalty will be charged and automatically added to your total outstanding loan balance.

Does LGT offer financial education?

Yes. Every loan includes free financial literacy training. This features individual business mentoring from loan officers alongside community-based group workshops focusing on bookkeeping and inventory control.
